Biopic über den populären Fernsehmoderator Fred Rogers (Tom Hanks), der vor allem mit seiner Kinderserie 'Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood' Berühmtheit erlangte. Der Journalist Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys) wird damit beauftragt, ein Porträt über den legendären Kinder-Entertainer zu schreiben. Im Zuge dessen lernt er, sich wieder zurück auf klassische Werte wie Güte und Mitgefühl zu besinnen und seinen Zynismus zu überwinden. Zwischen den Männern entsteht eine Freundschaft.
